Context
The client, a food & beverage company, needed its B2B and B2C applications moved onto F5 Distributed Cloud. Beyond standard WAF-level protection, the application mix included a meaningful number of APIs and bot traffic patterns that simple signature-based bot detection wasn’t built to handle well.
What I did
- Migrated B2B and B2C applications onto F5 Distributed Cloud
- Activated behavioral anti-bot protection, which profiles interaction patterns rather than relying only on static signatures, to handle more sophisticated automated traffic
- Enabled API security capabilities to give the client visibility and protection specifically for API endpoints, distinct from standard web application traffic
- Managed the full configuration through Terraform, keeping application delivery and security policy in the same version-controlled workflow
Outcome
- Bot traffic that would evade simple signature-based detection is now caught by behavior-based analysis instead
- APIs, often the least protected surface in a typical web application, got dedicated security coverage instead of being treated the same as standard web traffic
- All security and delivery configuration lives in Terraform, so changes are reviewable and auditable rather than happening through untracked dashboard edits
