Context
The client, an energy sector company, was running an older generation of Akamai’s Zero Trust platform. The legacy architecture carried higher latency for end users and was operationally heavier to manage than Akamai’s current-generation deployment model.
What I did
- Planned and executed the upgrade of the Zero Trust infrastructure components to a modern Akamai architecture
- Coordinated the parallel upgrade of Zero Trust client software on end-user machines across the organization, so infrastructure and endpoints moved forward together instead of drifting out of sync
- Validated that access policies and user experience remained consistent through the transition, rather than treating the upgrade as a clean-slate reconfiguration
Outcome
- End users get lower-latency access to internal applications through the modernized architecture
- The infrastructure team operates a current-generation platform instead of maintaining a legacy deployment with more manual overhead
- Infrastructure and client-side components are aligned on the same modern baseline, removing the operational complexity of supporting two generations of the platform at once
